Cheese Croutes

Total Time: 20 mins Preparation Time: 5 mins Cook Time: 15 mins

Ingredients

  • 6 slices of crusty bread or 12 slices french baguettes
  • 1/3 cup dry wine
  • 1 egg
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 garlic clove, pressed or minced
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 pinch cayenne pepper
  • 3 cups gruyere cheese, shredded (about 10 oz)
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper (approx., to taste)

Recipe

  • 1 on rimmed baking sheet, lightly toast bread in 500f oven, turning halfway through cooking time, about 6 minutes.
  • 2 remove from oven; sprinkle with 3 tablespoons of the wine.
  • 3 in large bowl, beat egg, egg yolk, garlic, flour and cayenne until smooth. whisk in remaining wine; mix in cheese.
  • 4 top bread with cheese mixture; sprinkle with freshly ground pepper.
  • 5 return to oven; bake until golden, about 10 minutes.
