Bavarian Crostini

Ingredients

- 1/4 cup butter or 1/4 cup margarine
- 1 large spanish onion, thinly sliced
- 1 garlic clove, cut in half
- 1/2 teaspoon caraway seed, coarsely chopped
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- french bread (sliced 1/4-inch thick) or italian bread (sliced 1/4-inch thick)
- 1/4 lb quartered swiss cheese or 1/4 lb thinly sliced jarlsberg cheese
Recipe
- 1 preheat oven to 375º.
- 2 in a 12" skillet, melt butter over medium heat and cook onion, caraway seeds and salt, stirring occasionally, 14 minutes or until onions are golden.
- 3 meanwhile, on baking sheet, arrange bread slices.
- 4 bake 10 minutes or until edges are golden.
- 5 when cool slightly rub with garlic cloves.
- 6 evenly top each bread slice with onion mixture, then cheese.
- 7 bake 2 minutes or until cheese is melted.
- 8 serve hot.
