Bavarian Crostini

Total Time: 20 mins Preparation Time: 5 mins Cook Time: 15 mins

Ingredients

  • Servings: 24
  • 1/4 cup butter or 1/4 cup margarine
  • 1 large spanish onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 garlic clove, cut in half
  • 1/2 teaspoon caraway seed, coarsely chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • french bread (sliced 1/4-inch thick) or italian bread (sliced 1/4-inch thick)
  • 1/4 lb quartered swiss cheese or 1/4 lb thinly sliced jarlsberg cheese

Recipe

  • 1 preheat oven to 375º.
  • 2 in a 12" skillet, melt butter over medium heat and cook onion, caraway seeds and salt, stirring occasionally, 14 minutes or until onions are golden.
  • 3 meanwhile, on baking sheet, arrange bread slices.
  • 4 bake 10 minutes or until edges are golden.
  • 5 when cool slightly rub with garlic cloves.
  • 6 evenly top each bread slice with onion mixture, then cheese.
  • 7 bake 2 minutes or until cheese is melted.
  • 8 serve hot.
