Combo Flatcake (tanzania)

Total Time: 30 mins Preparation Time: 10 mins Cook Time: 20 mins

Ingredients

  • Servings: 8
  • 1/2 lb lean ground beef
  • 3 large potatoes, peeled and grated
  • 3 large carrots, peeled and grated
  • 1/2 cup whole wheat flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon curry powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil

Recipe

  • 1 combine beef, potatoes and carrots in a large bowl.
  • 2 in another bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, salt, curry powder, cinnamon and baking powder.
  • 3 add dry mix to the beef mixture, along with the egg and milk. blend thoroughly.
  • 4 heat 2 tbsp of oil in a heavy skillet over medium heat.
  • 5 dump mixture into skillet in half-cup portions, as many as will fit at one time, flattening each slightly with a wooden spoon.
  • 6 cook covered, for 5 minutes or until browned.
  • 7 flip cakes over to brown the second side.
  • 8 repeat until all the mixture is used, adding the remaining oil, a bit at a time, to prevent sticking.
